Celebrating food with friends for Refugee Week

Food with Friends

To celebrate Refugee Week, Stand & Be Counted Theatre’s Soap Box Bradford group put on a full spread!

At Theatre in the Mill, Bradford, Food With Friends was a celebration of the recipes and flavours that bring us together and connect communities worldwide. The group made delicious homemade meals from Rohingya, Afghanistan, Yorkshire, Iran and Syria. The conversations then centred around the group talking about the meals that have made us.

Soap Box Bradford is a weekly creative empowerment programme for people seeking or with sanctuary in Bradford. It is currently developing an interactive recipe book for release later in the year.

Stand and Be Counted Theatre is an arts charity and the UK’s first Theatre Company of Sanctuary. Amal’s funding has enabled the Soap Box programme to come to Bradford for the first time.

Co-created projects

This project is part of Amal’s Co-created Projects programme.  We support high-quality arts projects that are co-created by Muslims and creative professionals and showcased within the wider community. These provide Muslims with opportunities they would not otherwise have to express their creativity in ways that matter to them.  By enabling experimentation between Muslim artists and communities, these projects model ways in which the UK’s arts and cultural mainstream could more fully and authentically represent and engage Muslims as individuals and communities.
