Schools Cultural Exploration: Syrian Music and Dance

Students at Milton Keynes secondary schools collaborated with Syrian refugee musicians to learn about Syria’s rich culture and play Arabic musical instruments while mainly Syrian refugees formed a choir, culminating in the performance of a new composition by the London Syria Ensemble at the 2019 Art in the Lake Festival. In 12 sessions at a special yurt venue, festival audiences engaged with artists and performers, connecting Syrian refugees with the wider community.
