Over 10,000 Londoners participated in 270 live events exploring Ayisha Malik’s representation of what it is to be a young Muslim woman in London today in her novel Sofia Khan is Not Obliged. Young Muslims felt they had found in Sofia Khan a character they could see themselves in while non-Muslims felt comfortable to ask questions about Muslimness and Ayisha Malik found new audiences for her work.
