Our partner Kala Sangam in Bradford has premiered Bird in the Window, written and directed by Jameela Khan and Umar Butt. After delays due to Covid19, this family theatre show was staged as part of Kala Sangam’s return Autumn season. The production was commissioned by Amal after a callout for theatre companies and makers to pitch to produce a piece of children’s theatre that would feel accessible to families of Muslim heritage.
Kala Sangam ran performances of Bird in the Window for both the public and schools as well as performing arts workshops led by Jameela Khan for children to work towards their Arts Award. Bird in the Window uses puppetry to tell the story of a son coming to terms with the loss of his father by embarking on a fantastical journey with an old feathery friend. The one-hour show is packed with scares, laughs, tears, joy and rap!
Don’t worry if you missed it. Bird in the Window will tour to destinations around the UK in 2022. Watch the trailer now!
