Mother Tongues from Farther Lands is a spoken word/theatre show full of fascinating, fearless and funny stories from those whose voices can often be absent despite being the backbone of South Asian culture – women. Taking inspiration from communities across the UK, professional performers bring fascinating, fearless and funny monologues to life, from those whose voices can too often be absent.
Sajeela Kershi, comedian, writer and creator of the multi-award-winning, sell-out national tour of Immigrant Diaries, has been commissioned to devise this new performance. She and her cast, which includes some familiar faces from stage and screen, invite communities to come celebrate the stories and lives of the unsung inspirational South Asian women across the UK.
With a cheeky nod to the historic patriarchy prevalent in South Asian societies, this show seeks to address the balance by showing the strength, tenacity and bravery at the core of these diverse kick-ass women.
Join the party! Audiences are encouraged to come dressed in something fun and colourful.
This event is part of Southbank Centre’s Alchemy Doncaster.
