Maghreb Ciné: The Battle of Algiers

EXTERNAL EVENT

Maghreb Ciné is back in February with a classic – The Battle of Algiers (La Battaglia di Algeri).

The story of the life-and-death struggle between the French colonial government of Algeria and the Algerian Liberation Front (FLN), who wanted the French out and were willing to set off bombs to do it. The French sent in their elite paratroopers with the order to use any means to break the insurgency. This powerful film – shot in a gritty documentary style – is one of the most influential political movies of all time, depicting the brutal acts of both sides.

There will be tea, coffee, biscuits and cake – and feel free to bring something to share. We encourage attendees to network before and after the screening. Venue is wheelchair-accessible.
