The Othello Project Is Back

24 October 2018 | Amal Team

Since the relaunch of our grant applications, we’ve partnered up with English Touring Theatre (ETT) to bring back #TheOthelloProject – a series of talks, workshops and artistic responses curated with host venues and local artists across ETT’s 2018 UK tour of Othello. Building on last year’s success, the tour gives a platform to some of the most exciting Muslim artists and writers working in the UK today, shining a light on the contemporary themes of Shakespeare’s play.

The Othello Project includes work from spoken-word artist Tanya Muneera Williams, visual artist Mohammed Ali and screenings of The Young Muslim Voices film, FlightThe Young Muslim Voices Project is a creative social start-up which challenges perceptions through the sharing of people’s stories. Look out for a short play in response to the Othello production by playwright Iman Qureshi (Papatango Prize winner 2018). The play was first performed in a staged reading at Cast in Doncaster and will be shared and discussed by groups in events across the tour.

Activities for The Othello Project will take place in 10 UK cities including Oxford, Doncaster, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Cheltenham, Oldham, Ipswich, Warwick, Newcastle and Poole, and will be running through to November 2018. Visit  for more information and look out for the hashtag #TheOthelloProject on social media.
