Countdown To The Summer

21 May 2019 | Amal Team

We’re looking forward to a jam-packed summer of festivals and events happening across the UK, starting with our partners Bradford Literature Festival and Shubbak.

Bradford Literature Festival

With over 500 events running from 28 June – 7 July 2019, Bradford Literature Festival curates a programme of world-renowned authors, poets, musicians and artists.

Amal is supporting a number of events at this year’s festival, including spoken word by Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan (Whose Eyes Are These Anyway)Syria: Recipes from Home with authors Dina Mousawi and Itab Azzam and Chronicles of Majnun Layla – a classic love story retold by Amer Hlehel.

Shubbak Festival

Shubbak has become a key moment in the arts calendar of the UK and the Arab world, bringing new and unexpected voices alongside established artists to audiences every two years. This year’s festival takes place in London from 28 June – 14 July 2019.

Amal is pleased to partner with Shubbak for the festival’s finale at the National Theatre’s outdoor River Stage from 12 – 14 July for a weekend of music, performance, workshops and installations.

We’re also supporting Halka, an acrobatic display performed by Groupe Acrobatique de Tanger who have travelled the world with their contemporary shows. In Halka, the 14 acrobats and musicians create an energetic spectacle which hums with the sights and sounds of Moroccan street life.

Meet Our 2018/2019 Partners

On 7 October 2019, we had the pleasure of hosting Amal partners from the 22 arts and culture projects we have supported since launching our programme in August 2018.

From London to Bradford

We’ve spent the Summer visiting Amal-supported projects in locations across the UK. Up next are two of our partners presenting their work in London and Bradford.
